As part of its company-wide ESG program, COMPO has signed the Commitment Letter of the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). This commits COMPO to science-based climate targets and continuous review by the globally recognized network. After submitting its own targets, they are validated by the SBTi, which is based on the latest climate science findings.
Responsible action and sustainable management are key requirements for COMPO at all levels. The seriousness with which COMPO takes its self-imposed obligation is reflected not only in a large number of measures - COMPO recently published its DNK declaration in September - but also in the fact that the leading supplier of branded products for plants in the home and garden in Europe has been part of the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) since October 2023 as the first German company in the category.
"To date, COMPO has already achieved a lot to continuously reduce its footprint. Joining SBTi is another significant milestone in our sustainability strategy to prepare and pursue concrete and binding company-wide emission reduction targets in line with climate science," announces Stephan Engster, CEO of COMPO. By joining, COMPO is following the path clearly defined by the SBTi to reduce emissions in line with the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement.
The Science Based Targets Initiative is a partnership between the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). It supports companies in setting well-founded emission reduction targets. It was launched in 2015 to help companies set emission reduction targets in line with current climate science and the goals of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels.
By signing and submitting the Commitment Letter, COMPO has committed to preparing and pursuing the submission of corresponding concrete, binding and science-based emission reduction targets. In doing so, COMPO is living up to its core values of responsible action and sustainable business. "We are giving our ambitious and tough targets as part of our sustainability strategy even more emphasis with this consistent step as a "Green Leader" in the industry," says Stephan Engster. In the coming months, COMPO will set specific near-term targets that will be regularly reviewed according to the latest scientific standards.
