COMPO receives SBTi validation for ambitious climate targets

COMPO has received validation of its group-wide near-term climate targets by the Science Based Targets initative (SBTi). This makes COMPO the first company in its industry whose emission reduction targets are officially recognised as science based and in line with the 1.5 degree pathway of the Paris Climate Agreement– a key milestone in COMPO‘s ESG programme and Green Leadership pledge and the recognition of an outstanding achievement that has significance far beyond the industry.

SBTi - What's behind it

SBTi is a partnership between the Carbon Disclosure Project, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute and the World Wide Fund for Nature. It was launched in 2015 to help companies set ambitious emissions reduction targets in line with current climate science and the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels. SBTi stands for the globally recognised standard for credible, science-based climate targets for companies.

Significance for COMPO

With the SBTi near-term targets, COMPO commits to reducing absolute greenhouse gas emissions in the value chain by 25 per cent by 2030 compared to the base year 2022. The targets meet the strict requirements of the SBTi and are based on the latest findings of climate science. Currently, only a very small percentage of less than 1 per cent of all companies worldwide have a target recognised by SBTi.

Key milestone in COMPOs ESG programme

The SBTi is the global standard for credible, science-based climate targets for companies. The implementation of the climate targets is regularly reviewed independently by the SBTi and communicated transparently. COMPO has already been able to demonstrate significant progress in reducing CO2 emissions in recent years and will continue to consistently pursue the reduction plan in the future. With the SBTi validation, COMPO seamlessly joins the ranks of top international companies such as Henkel, Miele, L‘Oréal and Beiersdorf, with the common goal of making a fundamental contribution to limiting global warming and its consequences and at the same time reliably supporting trading partners in achieving their own climate targets.
